Upcoming Events

6:30pm Wednesday, May 14: Gay and Lesbian Film Festival at the MFA

QAPA is proud to co-present Love My Life at the Museum of Fine Arts. An upbeat, indie-rock-infused tale true to the youth culture of Japan. College girls Ichiko and Eri fall madly in love, but while Eri studies law to please her family, Ichiko just wants to be young and in love. When Ichiko decides to come out to her father, stunning family secrets are revealed.

QAPA will be tabling outside of the theater, stop by and say hi to Kristin and Suriya! Go to the MFA website for more information and to buy tickets.

Late night Wednesday, May 14: After-Party for The Godfather of Disco at Machine/Ramrod

Proceeds for the party will benefit MAP for Health. For information on the movie, click here.

June 1: AIDS Walk

Join the fight against AIDS! Anyone who is interested in registering and walking with QAPA, please send an email to qapa@qapa.org

June 7: Pre-Pride Banner Making Party

Have fun with arts and crafts as we make decorations and banners for the Pride parade! Any help will be appreciated, especially those of you who have skills with prop construction, costume making, or crafts in general. This is a great opportunity for newcomers to meet other QAPA members. Food and music will be provided.

June 14: Pride Parade

Sport your rainbow colors and march with QAPA! Let's show our solidarity in numbers this year at the Pride Parade. QAPA regulars always welcome, newcomers especially welcome! More information on how to meet up for the parade, to be announced.

Past Events

Saturday, March 15: QAPA Town Hall Meeting (Potluck) and Rap Series with Pauline Park

Come one, come all! Please join us in an open meeting to discuss the direction of QAPA in 2008. Got big ideas for QAPA? Care to share? We need to hear from you! Topics to be discussed are: event planning, outreach and education, joining the steering committee, and more.

Pauline Park is a transgendered woman of Asian birth who has had extensive involvement with the LGBT community in New York and nationally. Check out her website at: http://www.paulinepark.com/

Saturday, December 15, 7pm: QAPA's Annual Holiday Party

Our yearly holiday takeover of Chau Chow City. Generally, this event has a huge turn out. Come out for excellent Chinese food, Yankee Swap, and of course, good company!

Wednesday, December 5, 7PM: Meet and Greet at Lollicup Bubble Tea in Super 88

Come in from the cold for bubble tea (hot or cold) and conversation. Our monthly meet and greet is a great way for newcomers to get introduced to QAPA and for old-timers to catch up with each other.

Saturday, November 10, 7:30PM: Night of Asian Comedy

Come network, socialize and enjoy a night of comedy! Featuring All Asian Standup Comedian starcast: Don Diego (from NYC), Joe Wong (from Boston), Magic Mike (from LA), Shawn Malloy (from Boston) and more!

Friday, November 9, 6:30PM: Nut/cracked at the BCA

Come one, come all to join QAPA for our very own special event at the Boston Center for the Arts. The Theater Offensive is running their new series of plays and we are going!

Nut/cracked is definitely not your grandmother's Nutcracker! The Bang Group takes every little girl's favorite Christmas show and tears it limb from limb, with hilarious new twists for 2007! Mixing Tchaikovsky's original score with more contemporary music, the company turns the sugarcoated ballet into a beautifully executed piece of irreverent dance theatre. Whether you love or hate the original, this playful riff is brilliant for adults, rib-tickling for kids!

Saturday, October 27: 5 College APA (Asian Pacific American) Conference

Conference at UMass Amherst on the intersection of queer API identity. Presenters from UMass Amherst.

Thursday, October 18: Coffee Chat

In lieu of the Rap Series, this month we thought we'd gather for a cozy little meet and greet over coffee. Warm up with us with some coffee or tea (good nibbles here too!). Several newcomers arrived, bringing our total number to ten.

Sunday, May 21: QAPA Co-Presents Margaret Cho's Bam Bam Celeste

QAPA co-presents the closing film this year at the 22nd Annual Boston Gay and Lesbian Film/Video Festival at the Museum of Fine Arts' Remis Auditorium. Uproarious comic genius Margaret Cho gets to invest everything that makes her great in this madcap road movie. The film features all of her favorite targets: freaky sex, growing up a loser, TV in every form and, of course, her glorious mother, full of kooky wisdom and breathtaking malapropisms that leave you laughing for days. Cho is Celeste, an overweight, Korean, former goth punk, while her longtime friend and collaborator Bruce Daniels plays Bam Bam, a hyper-queeny, African-American stylist. They are both stuck in a dreary Midwestern city until a shot at a reality TV make-over show puts them on the road to New York City. The film also stars Jane Lynch and Wilson Cruz. Description adapted from Noah Cowen, Toronto International Film Festival catalogue. Star and comedian Bruce Daniels present.

Saturday, May 13: QAPA Semi-Formal Wine & Cheese Fundraiser

It's time to dust off your semi-formal attire and rub elbows with your fellow QAPA members! Yes, QAPA goes upscale for one night with a wine & cheese fundraising party. Jazz music, wine, non-alcoholic beverages, appetizers, and cheese will be provided. All you have to do is bring yourself and your friends, queer and straight! A sliding scale donation of $10-20 per person is requested for a very good cause. If you feel like donating more, then by all means, please do!

QAPA's goal is to raise $500 for its participation in this year's Boston's Annual Pride Parade on Saturday, June 10th. This year, we're going to be creating some 10-foot tall queer Asian puppets, so there is no doubt that we'll attract a LOT of positive attention! Not only will we show everyone that QAPA knows how to party it up, but we'll make a proud statement that APIs are an important part of the LBGT community.

Remember that this event is semi-formal! Drag and creative attire are strongly encouraged!

Sunday, April 15: Surviving the Nian: Musical and Discussion

Join QAPA to watch Surviving the Nian as a group on April 15th. There will be a bunch of us going during preview week at the special community rate of $20, but we need to purchase tickets in advance. This should be a great show- written by local queer musician Melissa Li, and one of the few times we get to support (and see) Queer API visibility in theater! QAPA will also be facilitating a discussion afterwards for the group on Intercultural and Interracial dating.
